Apple finally adds touchscreen to MacBook Pro. OLED models start at $2,899. Sales start in a week
Apple has introduced new MacBook Pros with OLED displays that support touch controls. The laptops are available in 14-inch and 16-inch versions. These are the first MacBook Pros to feature touch screens, a feature the company hasn’t added to its laptops in years.
Apple has introduced new MacBook Pros with OLED displays that support touch controls. The laptops are available in 14-inch and 16-inch versions. These are the first MacBook Pros to feature touch screens, a feature the company hasn’t added to its laptops in years.
The starting price of the 14-inch model is $2,899, and the 16-inch model is $3,399. Pre-orders are already open, and sales are scheduled to begin on November 6. This is reported by MacRumors .
OLED, touch control and brightness up to 2000 nits
The new laptops feature a PROLED XDR display with touch gesture support. The screen provides a peak brightness of up to 2000 nits in HDR and SDR modes, and the claimed contrast ratio is 10,000,000:1.
We’re glowing with excitement over the new MacBook Pro. You’ve gotta touch it to believe it. https://t.co/BLiGkGaefL
The display supports ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of 10 to 120 Hz. An anti-glare coating should reduce reflections in bright light. Buyers will also be able to order a version with a nano-texture screen coating.
Touch controls don’t replace the keyboard and trackpad, but complement them. Apple has also changed the design of the laptop, including the cooling system to vent hot air away from the display.
Dynamic Island and the return of the glowing logo
With the new MacBook Pro, Apple brings Dynamic Island to the Mac for the first time. An interactive area around the display notch can display notifications, Live Activities, Spotlight items, and Siri features.
Another notable change is the return of the illuminated Apple logo on the laptop’s lid. The company removed it from the MacBook Pro after the 2016 redesign.
The manufacturer has also updated the audio system: the laptops have six speakers with redesigned low-frequency drivers and a tweeter. According to Apple, the new design provides 50% deeper bass. The sound has also been optimized when the laptop is connected to an external monitor with the lid closed.
Up to 128GB of memory and 16TB of storage
The new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the same ones Apple used in the MacBook Pro models introduced in March. The maximum combined memory is 128GB and the SSD storage is 16TB.
Ports and wireless capabilities include three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. The laptops can work with four external displays simultaneously. Fast charging allows you to restore 50% charge in 30 minutes.
Apple claims that battery life can reach up to 24 hours, depending on the configuration. The new OLED models will be sold alongside the MacBook Pro, which has mini-LED displays.
How much will the new MacBook Pro cost?
Starting prices for touch models are:
MacBook Pro 14 inches — from $2899;
MacBook Pro 16 inches — from $3399.
The cost of the maximum configuration with additional options can exceed $14,000. In particular, increasing the SSD to 16 TB costs significantly more than standard configurations.
Pre-orders opened on October 28, and sales are scheduled to begin on November 6.
