Microsoft is testing taskbar icons in Windows 11 that can change size as you open more apps, or remain smaller all the time. A similar feature is available on macOS computers.
The new features are included in the latest Insider Preview Beta, The Verge reports.
Beta users can now select the following options under Taskbar Settings > Taskbar Behavior under «Show smaller buttons on the taskbar»: Always, Never, or When the taskbar is full. The third option will reduce the size of the icons so they all fit and are not hidden in the second menu.

«With taskbar icon scaling, when the taskbar starts to fill up with pinned or open apps, the icons automatically shrink to a smaller size. This means you can keep more apps visible and accessible without having to dive into an additional menu. It’s all about making your workflow smoother and more efficient,» explained the Windows 11 developers.
This feature is similar to macOS, where taskbar icons become smaller when more apps are added or windows are minimized.
Insider Build researcher phantomofearth reported that the Start menu has also been updated. It now has a larger layout that includes the ability to hide recommended recent apps and can show all apps on a page.
Recall that Microsoft previously released an update for Windows 11 that accidentally removed the Copilot AI application. Much to the corporation’s regret, many users liked this bug.
