Dima Maleev on the impact of AI on IT: "In a few weeks we will see more and more "vibe coders" launching startups and receiving millions in funding"

Experienced IT professional, Senior Engineering Manager, and IT blogger Dima Maleev predicted the impact of artificial intelligence development on programming and the tech sector.

«More than two years ago, when ChatGPT was first released, some predicted that GenAI would replace a large number of jobs. Many experimented with it, discovering its limitations and extreme cases where it failed. They used these shortcomings as evidence that ChatGPT would never completely replace anyone. Now, agents, bots, and various AI-based tools have already replaced millions of people in their jobs. However, many still believe that GenAI will never replace engineers. You can find thousands of memes like „Code in 5 minutes / Fixed in 10 hours“, or images of broken buildings with the caption „Vibe coding“,» the IT guy notes.

For some reason, says Dmitry, people believe that the world is only moving towards better and better experiences. «In fact, it’s often the opposite. The moment we find something significantly cheaper and more accessible, we take it. Look at airline travel. Fifty or sixty years ago, flights were expensive, with on-board restaurants, smoking sections and lots of legroom. Now, if you fly economy class, you may not even have enough legroom, and free alcohol is a thing of the past for most airlines. Luxury still exists, but only for those who can afford first or business class,» he gave an example.

The same trend, Maleev believes, applies to software engineering, a shift that has been happening for decades. «Programming languages have become simpler, which has allowed more people to enter the field without a computer science degree. Agile methodologies emphasize speed over perfection, making it acceptable to release imperfect software and fix bugs later,» he argues.

Maleev states that in just over two years, GenAI has made incredible progress. And although its growth will slow down over time, it is already capable of writing functional code. «Maintaining this code remains a challenge — people read code much more often than they write it — but AI doesn’t care,» the specialist notes.

He predicts that eventually, IT professionals will embrace GenAI as just another tool, and skill will be measured by how well we use it to create better software—not human-like code, but better code. «Coding will become even more accessible, and we will continue to prioritize speed over quality. In a few weeks, we will see more and more ‘vibe coders’ launching startups and receiving millions in funding,» Maleev predicts.

«Whether we like it or not, progress cannot be stopped, especially when we are willing to lower our standards. That is how humanity is designed,» he sums up.

Vibe coding is becoming increasingly popular in IT — programmers simply ask AI to perform certain tasks and do not delve into the actual code offered by the chatbot.
