American entrepreneur Elon Musk wants to buy OpenAI, which created one of the most popular AI platforms in the world, ChatGPT, writes the BBC.
Musk's lawyer Mark Toberoff confirmed to reporters an official offer from a billionaire-led group of investors to acquire OpenAI.
The company, which Musk founded with current CEO Sam Altman in 2015, was valued at $97.4 billion. This is far below the $157 billion OpenAI was valued at in October of last year. Now, according to many experts, the company's capitalization could well exceed $300 billion.
Altman refused to accept the offer. And replied that he could buy Twitter for $9.74 billion, "if Musk wants it."
Elon Musk accused his former colleague of turning a nonprofit into a corporation focused on using AI for personal gain. The Trump ally argued that OpenAI “is time to return to being the open, security-focused force for good it once was.”
