Billionaire Elon Musk has announced plans to give away one share of his SpaceX stock to every child in the United States next year, saying the initiative will be the first of many.
As Business Insider reports, Musk has not yet disclosed the technical details of the mechanism for distributing the securities and the criteria for determining the recipients. If implemented, the initiative will cover about 72 million children. According to current estimates, the value of this block of shares reaches about $ 10.5 billion.
"Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every child in America," Musk said on X (Twitter).
Experts note that such a statement echoes the government initiative Trump Accounts, which envisages the creation of investment accounts with a federal contribution of $1,000 for children born between 2025 and 2028. However, it is currently unknown whether Musk plans to integrate his distribution into this government program or use separate infrastructure.
SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband have already pledged to give away company shares to more than 2 million children. Musk himself has so far refrained from publicly pledging to give away his own shares.
