According to the Whois registry, the dot.com domain name was re-registered in July 2026, and is currently the download page for the Grok app from xAI, TechCrunch reports .
Social media users suggested that Musk’s team deliberately purchased the domain after learning about the upcoming release of OpenAI.
At the same time, the dots.com domain, which exactly matches the name of OpenAI’s new AI agent, is currently owned by a company that has already ceased operations. xAI representatives have not yet provided official comments on the reasons for purchasing the dot.com address.
OpenAI’s Dots are powered by GPT‑6 Astra, have their own cloud computing, and learn over time from feedback. They can connect to over 4,000 applications.
Elon Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI, but later left the project due to disagreements over the company’s development vectors. Later, he created his own company xAI, launched the Grok neural network, and repeatedly initiated lawsuits against OpenAI and Sam Altman.
