Mathematics has once again become the weakest subject in the NMT: the average score is 131.9. What do the 2026 results show?
Mathematics showed the lowest average result among all subjects of the NMT-2026 - 131.9 points out of 200.

Mathematics showed the lowest average result among all subjects of the NMT-2026 — 131.9 points out of 200.
This is stated in a mini-report by the Ukrainian Center for Education Quality Assessment.
For comparison, the average result in Ukrainian was 142 points, in the history of Ukraine - 141.1. The participants did best in German - there the average result reached 156 points. In addition, almost 40,000 participants did not pass the threshold in mathematics at all - this is 12.1% of those who took the test. To get a result, it was necessary to score at least 5 test points out of 32 possible.
However, 1,152 participants received 200 points. Only English had more than 200 points — 2,194. But it was mathematics that became the main obstacle for those who did not pass the NMT. Of the 48,590 participants who did not pass the threshold in at least one subject, almost 40,000 did not cope with mathematics. It is difficult to talk about a sharp drop in results yet. The average score in mathematics is gradually decreasing: in 2024 it was 132.5, in 2025 — 132.3, and this year — 131.9.
The results have already sparked discussions about what exactly this level of knowledge shows. For example, user skilar.math, who also took the NMT training version, believes that the problem is not in the test itself. According to her, the tasks mainly test the school curriculum and basic knowledge that should have been formed before high school. So she called the NMT a mirror of our education.

In another post, the author also drew attention to the responsibility of adults for preparing graduates. In her opinion, one should not expect a 17-year-old student to organize his or her own preparation for admission: it should be a joint effort between the student, parents, and teachers.
