Ukrainian UAV manufacturer Vyriy Industries is developing an analogue of the Chinese DJI Mavic copter with a much longer flight duration.
The company’s director, Oleksiy Babenko, told the publication «Military». According to him, the «Slavik» drone can already fly and is controlled by a remote control similar to the DJI Matrice 4.
Vyriy Industries aims to simplify the transition of Ukrainian military personnel from the Chinese drone, so it is developing a similar interface and remote control. In addition, the company will add the function of countering electronic warfare and returning to the owner, which the Mavic does not have.
The developers also want to add the function of capturing and tracking the target to the Slavik. The daytime version will cost $4,000–4,500, and the model with a thermal imager $4,500–5,000. This is slightly more expensive than the Chinese drone.
«So far it’s about 1.5 hours, but we haven’t optimized anything yet, so I think it will be 2 hours. And 2 hours of flight is about four times longer than the Mavic’s flight time,» Babenko said about the advantages of Slavik.
Vyriy Industries plans to soon begin combat testing of its Mavic counterpart. The company will then hold a public presentation of the Slavik and begin serial production.
Vyriy is currently conducting combat tests of the Veresen drone, which will begin mass production in April. This is a twin-engine drone created by Vyriy together with specialists from the 20th K-2 Brigade. It was named after the unit’s commander, Kirill Veres.
