Ukrainian drones for American weapons — Zelensky and Trump may conclude a "mega deal"
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are considering a «mega-deal» in which the US would purchase war-tested Ukrainian drones in exchange for a shipment of American weapons.
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are considering a «mega-deal» in which the US would purchase war-tested Ukrainian drones in exchange for a shipment of American weapons.
This was stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, writes the New York Post with reference to The Post. According to him, Ukraine can share the experience gained over more than three years of full-scale war with Russia.
Such an agreement could be beneficial for the United States, as many experts in the field of UAVs believe that American technology lags significantly behind Russian and Chinese ones, and American soldiers are not sufficiently prepared to use drones.
«The American people need this technology, and you should have it in your arsenal. I think this is truly a mega-deal, beneficial to all parties, as they say», — Zelenskyy said.
The American publication points to the Ukrainian large-scale special operation to destroy enemy Russian aircraft «Website» in early June 2025. Then, as a result of the UAV attack, about 40 aircraft were damaged, including the A-50 long-range radar detection and control aircraft, the Tu-95 strategic missile bomber, and the Tu-22M3 supersonic long-range strategic missile bomber.
Also noted are the actions of Ukrainian drones in the Black Sea, which cleared it of Russian warships, as well as drone strikes thousands of kilometers deep into Russian territory.
«We are ready to share this experience with America and other European partners», — Zelenskyy said, adding that negotiations are also underway with Denmark, Norway, and Germany.
The potential «mega-deal» looks promising as US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a new order to «reduce bureaucracy» in drone production in the US. The Pentagon memo stresses the need for the US to keep up with other countries as the production of military drones around the world is rapidly increasing.
