Ukrainian-Maltese studio 4A Games, together with the GOG platform, has re-released classic versions of the Metro series. Now the original Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light have been adapted to fully work on modern operating systems and current hardware.
The developers announced this on the company’s official blog.
The release took place as part of the GOG Preservation Program. The platform team carried out technical optimizations of projects from 2010 to 2013, ensuring full compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11. In addition to fixing bugs, the games improved frame rates, expanded the resolution range, and added vertical synchronization for smoother gameplay.
An important part of the update was the support for modern controllers through the GOG Input Tool. Games now work correctly with Sony DualSense, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2 Pro. The developers implemented wireless mode and the ability to connect controllers «on the go» with optimal button assignments.
«It’s very important to us that players still remember and love the games that started 4A Games' history. We listened to them and, together with our friends at GOG, are happy to bring back the original versions of Metro through the preservation program,» the studio notes.
4A Games emphasized that this release is an opportunity for the community to look back after the recent announcement of Metro 2039, which caused a significant resonance among fans.
