Microsoft plans to launch a new generation of AI agents "that will work as independent employees within the company" this month.
“Each autonomous agent has its own identity, targeted access to company systems and applications, and the ability to collaborate with people and other agents,” Microsoft says in a product roadmap document. “These agents can attend meetings, edit documents, communicate via email and chat, and autonomously complete tasks.”
Microsoft will sell these AI agents in the M365 Agent Store and make them available in its Teams tools, the Register reports .
Microsoft licensing expert Rich Gibbons, citing internal documents for M365 administrators, announced a new “A365” license (presumably for the “Agent 365” product). He emphasized that it will not require an additional Microsoft 365 or Teams license.
Microsoft MVP Joao Ferreira also confirmed the information about the A365 and Agent 365 license. According to him, agents will have their own email address, Teams account, entry in corporate directories (either Entra ID or Azure AD), and even a place in the company's organizational structure.
“They can participate in meetings, send and receive emails and chat messages, access corporate data, and learn through interaction to get better over time,” Ferreira added.
Microsoft documents indicate that these agents will debut later in November. With the company’s annual Ignite conference starting next week, The Register speculates that the agents could be one of Microsoft’s announcements at the event. Ferreira said that Microsoft will have a “targeted release” of A365.
