Microsoft has eliminated a one-time $19 fee, allowing independent developers in nearly 200 countries to publish their apps for free in the Microsoft Store.
Now Microsoft has an advantage over its competitors: Google has a one-time fee of $25, and Apple has an annual fee of $99, writes TechRadar.
To gain access, developers need to sign in with their personal Microsoft account. While a credit card is not required, they will need to scan a government-issued ID and take a selfie.
“Microsoft is creating a more inclusive and accessible platform that empowers more developers to innovate, share, and thrive in the Windows ecosystem,” said Senior Product Manager Chetna Das.

Das clarified that developers can use their own commercial system and receive 100% of the revenue, which is likely a nod to Apple, which has been under scrutiny recently for its fees.
Microsoft has unveiled two of its own AI models, MAI–Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview. It seems the company is aiming to become an independent player in the AI space.
