Microsoft has introduced Copilot Tasks, an AI agent that automatically performs routine tasks in the background. The feature takes the load off the device using its own cloud computer and browser, allowing the system to perform a variety of tasks — from scheduling meetings to creating lesson plans — while the user is busy with other things.

As Microsoft notes , you can interact with Copilot Tasks using natural language. The AI can be tasked with performing tasks on a regular basis, on a schedule, or one-time basis. Once the work is complete, Copilot Tasks will provide a report on the actions performed.
Copilot Tasks can be tasked with organizing your subscriptions and canceling those you don't use. The AI agent can also turn emails, attachments, and images from your email into a full-fledged presentation.
Other features include searching for urgent emails and preparing draft responses; planning a birthday party, from choosing a location to sending out invitations; and tracking new apartment rental listings every Friday and even organizing home viewings.
Microsoft notes that Tasks will ask for permission before performing "meaningful actions," like making a payment or sending a message on your behalf.
Copilot Tasks is currently only available in a research preview format to a "small group" of testers. You can join the Copilot Tasks waitlist on Microsoft's website .
