“My number went to a criminal, and Kyivstar still doesn’t know how it happened.” A financial manager complained that scammers were using her number and it was practically impossible to influence it: why

Cybercriminals hacked the victim's phone and stole her number.
Financial manager Anastasia Yatsenko spoke on LinkedIn about a situation when her Kyivstar mobile operator number was hacked by cybercriminals, but it was practically impossible to fix the situation.
"I had a Kyivstar SIM card. But since I don't live in Ukraine, I rarely used it. The last time was on January 13. On January 23, in the morning, my phone was hacked and reset to factory settings. The Kyivstar SIM card stopped working.
"Applying to operators, going to the Kyivstar store, they didn't help me at all. My number went to the criminal. And Kyivstar still doesn't know how it happened. And it can't even block it, arguing that I can't prove that I'm its owner. The criminal is now using my number to the fullest extent," writes Anastasia.
In the comments under the post, she writes that she provided screenshots of calls, a bank statement, and when there were top-ups. She also dictated the code that is on the SIM card. According to the girl, Kyivstar responded that the information was not true.
As for how the number was hacked, Anastasia suggests that it was transferred to another SIM card while hers was blocked. With the phone number in hand, they hacked the email and reset the phone to factory settings, changing the passwords.
Below the post is an explanation from one of the social network users as to why such an incident could have happened:
"No anonymous number is immune from this. Either a contractual form of service or at least personalization of the number can prevent such unpleasant situations. The fact that your data was hacked is entirely your responsibility. It's similar to driving a car without documents, and when it's stolen, trying to prove that it's yours."
"After this incident, I already understood. I already registered another number," the author of the post replied.
Cyber police have exposed three fraudsters from Kryvyi Rih who were reissuing SIM cards. They managed to defraud 50 people - the amount of losses could reach UAH 1,000,000
