«I originally created MemPalace for myself — because I needed a program for Lu to organize my files (and I have a lot of them), and I tried a lot of systems that just didn’t work for me, so I had to think outside the box… That’s how the idea for the ‘palace’ was born,» Jovovich explained on X (Twitter).
MemPalace is an AI-powered memory enhancement tool that digitizes the «memory palace» concept. The project aims to make the well-known memory enhancement method more accessible to modern users by using AI to create personalized virtual environments.
The project was liked by some IT people, including Shopify CEO Toby Lutke, but many users questioned the benchmarks and Jovovich’s own contribution. They noted that the MemPalace repository with Milla Jovovich’s Github account showed only 7 commits in 2 active days. And the code and benchmarks were attributed to a developer with the nickname Lu.
«Lu or Lu_code is my artificial intelligence, so all the comments coming from Ben or sent to him are written by me/Lu,» Jovovich said.
She noted that she acts as the architect of MemPalace, and Ben Sigman is the engineer. The actress relies on Lu to program and create scripts, while Ben Sigman checks the work of the AI.
Milla Jovovich noted that within 72 hours of its release, MemPalace had garnered 34,000 stars and 4,000 forks on GitHub, as well as «an impressive number of change requests.» She added that she has been «tirelessly working on improving» the project with Sigman and Lu ever since.
