According to Reuters, according to the state-owned company Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the outages occurred on Friday at 4:00 p.m. local time.
Traffic lights were out due to a power outage, causing traffic jams on the streets. The traffic lights have now been restored to normal operation.
Special services are working to restore other services to the affected people. The island is currently completely without electricity, and there are also problems with water. People are lighting fires to cook food.
It is known that power outages also occurred at the island’s airport, but its operation was not stopped thanks to generators.
There were also power outages at the Bali Police Headquarters, as well as at district and precinct police stations. Officers had to operate on generators.
PLN said it was investigating the cause of the power outage. The process of restoring power is gradually underway. According to media reports, the outage was caused by damage to the underwater cables that connect Bali’s power grid to the island of Java, which led to power outages in several areas of Bali.
Bali is Indonesia’s main tourist destination, visited by 6.3 million foreign tourists last year, according to the island’s statistics bureau.
Recall that a blackout recently occurred in some European countries.
