In January 2026, a high-profile incident occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk region: a driver brutally beat the only programmer in the village for refusing to carry water. In October, the Kryvyi Rih District Court of the Dnipropetrovsk region sentenced and punished the offender.
This is reported by the independent regional media outlet "SVOI. Kryvyi Rih".
The conflict unfolded near the Gleiuvatsk outpatient clinic. The driver of the medical facility called the programmer and ordered him to carry heavy water bottles with him. However, the programmer refused to comply with this order, as at that moment he was busy with another work task assigned to him by the director.
According to the case file, an angry driver confronted an IT resident and brutally beat him, inflicting about nine blows to the head until the man lost consciousness. After that, the attacker took his mobile phone.
When the victim regained consciousness, he was able to reach the outpatient clinic building on his own and began calling for help. However, none of the management or medical staff responded appropriately to his screams: although the director, senior nurse, and technician heard the screams, the latter cynically replied that her minibus was running late and went about her business. Meanwhile, the attacker caught up with the programmer inside the facility and continued to strike.
The victim was able to call emergency services, the police, and notify his parents only after he was able to reach the nearest store. The story later gained publicity, in particular thanks to journalistic investigations: in a video, the victim programmer spoke in detail about how he was attacked right at his workplace, while the management of the outpatient clinic tried to avoid communicating with the press, and the village council threw up its hands.
During the court hearing, the driver categorically denied his guilt, putting forward the version that the programmer allegedly fell and hit the ice himself.
The court found the driver guilty and sentenced him to two years of probation. In addition, the offender was ordered to pay the victim almost UAH 20,000 in material and moral damages.
The capital's court fined the programmer 170,000 UAH and banned him from doing business and working for the state for 11 years. What did the IT guy do?
