russia is developing a sea-based carrier drone for the Shahed: Defense Express analysts called the concept absurd

russian engineers have presented a concept for a naval drone designed to launch Shahed attack UAVs. However, Ukrainian military analysts consider this development ineffective for use against Ukraine, questioning its practical feasibility.
According to Defense Express, the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences has announced the development of a new naval platform. According to the published images, it is equipped with four launch cells for Shahed missiles and a remotely controlled machine gun turret.
The military-analytical portal analyzed this concept, pointing out its key technical shortcomings. In particular, the location of the machine gun turret directly in front of the UAV launch zones will likely lead to its damage during launch.
Defense Express analysts concluded that this platform has no real military advantage for attacks on Ukraine, and here are a few main reasons:
Lack of range gain: The Shaheds can already reach targets from Crimea or the territory of the Russian Federation. Adding a sea platform does not significantly expand the range.
Ease of detection and vulnerability: A drone is a large, visible target that is easy to detect and neutralize, in particular due to the active development of Ukrainian maritime interceptor drones.
Control issues: Russian Shaheds use a short-range radio channel that is easily jammed by electronic warfare (EW) systems. Effective control of such a platform over long distances is virtually impossible.
Experts note that the theoretical point in using a sea launch could only arise if the Shaheds were equipped with a heavier warhead, which would reduce their flight range. In this case, an increase of 150 km from the coast would make sense.
As a result, analysts believe that this development is another informational push for the domestic Russian audience, which in practice will collide with Ukrainian naval drones or lose contact due to the effects of electronic warfare.
