Microsoft has released a new Cyber Pulse report that offers a practical analysis of emerging cyber threats as AI agents become an integral part of daily business processes.
The fastest growth is seen in highly regulated and operationally complex industries. After software and technology development (16%), manufacturing accounts for 13% of global AI agent usage, followed by financial services (11%) and retail (9%).
According to the report, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) countries account for 42% of active AI agents, followed by the United States (29%), Asia (19%), and the rest of the Americas (10%).
The report warns that the rapid deployment of AI agents could outpace security and compliance systems, increasing the risk of shadow AI. Agents with excessive access or those that are deliberately misled with false data could become targets for attackers and unwittingly become “double agents.”
According to a Cyber Pulse report, 29% of employees are already using untested AI agents to perform work tasks.
“AI agents are becoming digital counterparts, often outpacing organizations’ ability to implement proper governance. In Ukraine, one of the top targets for cyberattacks in the world, innovation and security must go hand in hand. This means applying Zero Trust principles, clear accountability, continuous monitoring, and centralized governance. Reliable AI governance is not an obstacle to innovation, but rather something that allows organizations to mitigate risk, protect critical services, and build long-term digital resilience and trust,” said Renate Strazdina, National Technical Director for the Nordic Cluster at Microsoft.
Recall, the Ministry of Digital Affairs and Microsoft signed a memorandum of cooperation for the development of digital infrastructure, the implementation of innovative solutions, and the development of the artificial intelligence ecosystem in Ukraine.
