Nova Poshta is currently profitable in only 4 European countries. In which ones?
In less than two years, Nova Poshta, or more precisely Nova Post Europe, has been operating in 16 European countries. However, not all markets have become profitable for the company during this time.
In less than two years, Nova Poshta, or more precisely Nova Post Europe, has been operating in 16 European countries. However, not all markets have become profitable for the company during this time.
Nova Post Europe planned to open 200 branches in 30 countries by 2025. The plan to enter new markets failed, but the opening of new branches was exceeded four times - now the company has 800 service points, where 1,667 people work.
"We really ran very fast at first: in less than two years we opened 16 European countries. But at a certain point we realized that instead of chasing the number of countries, it is better to focus on deepening into existing markets," said Nova Post Europe CEO Oleksandr Lysovets in an interview with Forbes Ukraine.
In 2025, the number of branches doubled, 90% of them were partner branches. The largest number of branches was opened in Poland - 32, followed by Moldova - 25, and Germany and Spain - 24 new branches each.
“Nova Post’s revenue model in Europe is significantly different from a classic franchise. It’s not really a franchise. We don’t charge royalties, we don’t have a flat fee,” explains the company’s CEO.
According to the results of the fourth quarter of last year, the company achieved profitability in the markets of Poland, Moldova, the Czech Republic, as well as Latvia. In the remaining countries, the breakeven point has not yet been passed.
In Moldova, the company has tripled in size over the past year. This is the only country in Europe where the strategy involves building a full-fledged own infrastructure, repeating the model of Nova Poshta in Ukraine. Last year, a full-fledged franchise was launched there - 21 partner branches are already operating. The company is currently investing €2 million in a new sorting hub.
Overall, the average share of Ukrainians among Nova Post customers abroad is about 60%. In Moldova, the share of Ukrainians among customers is less than 1%.
"The goal is to achieve +30% in parcel processing compared to last year. And so on every year until 2030. To do this, we plan to begin a new stage of European expansion, supported by strategic investments of over $5 million," Lysovets noted about Nova Post Europe's plans.
