Adam Fry, Head of Atlas at OpenAI, said that his team is already working on improving the new AI browser and announced new features that will be coming soon.
According to Fry, some of these features will include user profiles, tab groups, and an optional built-in ad blocker. Most of these should arrive «in the coming weeks,» he said, «though some may take a little longer,» The Verge notes.
Additionally, OpenAI is working on improvements to already available features, such as the bookmark overflow menu and shortcut list.
Changes are also expected to be made to the browser’s key AI features. These include an agent, currently only available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users, that can perform actions on behalf of the user, as well as the Ask ChatGPT sidebar, which integrates the company’s chatbot.
Adam Fry promised that the AI agent will get better response times, a more robust «pause» feature, and improved integration with products like Google Drive and cloud-based Excel. The sidebar will be easier to use without having to leave the app and will allow users to select different AI projects or models directly without having to navigate to another page.
The Atlas executive said the team is also working on some «specific» fixes for the 1Password password manager.
ChatGPT Atlas is already available globally on macOS, with Windows, iOS, and Android access «coming soon.» «It’s an AI-powered web browser built on ChatGPT,» OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said during the announcement.
Earlier, AI expert Alexey Minakov spoke about some important, but not entirely obvious, nuances of working with Atlas.
