The new Wild Hornets video transmitter module, which increases the range of FPV drones by 50%, has successfully passed state tests
Ukrainian FPV drones will receive increased flight range and more stable communication in conditions of active counteraction of enemy electronic warfare (EW) means. Engineers of the MilTech company "Wild Hornets" have developed a new HV VTX Pro video transmitter module, which has successfully passed state tests.
The new module is part of the Hornet Vision digital communication system upgrade. It is one of the key elements of the drone, as it is responsible for transmitting the video signal from the drone's camera to the ground control station or the pilot's goggles.
Ministry of Defense test results
Official inspections were conducted with the participation of specialists from the State Research Institute for Testing and Certification of Armaments and Military Equipment, as well as the State Quality Assurance Department of the Ministry of Defense.
The effectiveness of the HV VTX Pro was confirmed when working with the company's main types of UAVs:
Sting is a high-speed interceptor drone;
"Hornet Queen" is a universal cargo platform;
Wild Hornets Digital is a 10-inch anti-aircraft drone.
All tests were conducted using the Hornet Vision Сtrl remote control system. As a result of the tests, individual tactical and technical characteristics (TTX) of the drones with the new module significantly exceeded the initially declared indicators. In the near future, appropriate changes will be made to the TTX passports after additional field tests.
Technical advantages
The development allowed us to increase the maximum power of the VTX module more than twice - up to 4 W.
Thanks to such power, the Ukrainian military receives a number of practical advantages. In particular, the quality and stability of the digital video signal at greater distances is improved. Video communication remains clear even in a cluttered radio environment. Also, interceptor drones will be able to more effectively work on objects moving at extremely low altitudes.
Mass production and cost reduction
The new HV VTX Pro module has already been launched into mass production and is being equipped with drones from Wild Hornets that work with the Hornet Vision system.
In addition to improving the performance characteristics, the transition to in-house production of VTX transmitters allowed the company to significantly reduce the total cost of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
