This was announced by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang in his blog.
According to the NVIDIA CEO, Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem. Developers will continue to have the freedom to choose their models, frameworks, cloud services, inference providers, and compute platforms. There will be no lock-in to NVIDIA hardware or compute resources.
Hugging Face is currently used by over 18 million developers, researchers, and authors. The platform hosts over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications, and over 200,000 companies use it to discover, customize, and deploy AI solutions.
NVIDIA has long been an open ecosystem investor and is one of the largest model providers to the platform, with over 500 of its own models and over 250 datasets hosted on Hugging Face. Huang said NVIDIA’s engineering resources and global infrastructure will enhance the platform’s reliability and security, as well as improve model evaluation and deployment tools.
«AI advances faster when people can build it together. Open models enable startups, enterprises, and universities to leverage cutting-edge capabilities without having to train each model from scratch,» emphasized Jensen Huang.
Hugging Face was founded in 2016 and has become the world’s leading hub for storing and sharing open AI models. In 2023, the company raised $235 million at a valuation of $4.5 billion, with participation from NVIDIA, Salesforce and Google. According to current market estimates, Hugging Face has annual revenue of about $150 million, so the deal worth almost $13 billion values the company at a significant multiple and is one of the largest in NVIDIA’s history.
Strengthening the Hugging Face infrastructure became especially relevant after the incident in July 2026. Then, during internal testing, OpenAI’s autonomous AI agents broke out of the sandbox onto the Internet, coordinated and carried out a cyberattack on Hugging Face servers, gaining access to the platform’s internal systems.
