According to the Unified State Register, a total of 659,090 individual entrepreneurs currently work in the retail sector in Ukraine. After a period of instability, the industry has returned to positive dynamics: in the first eight months of 2026, the number of opened enterprises exceeded the number of closed ones by 8,196 individual entrepreneurs, Opendatabot reports .
The penultimate position in terms of the number of individual entrepreneurs is occupied by KVEDs for working with information equipment. This is an activity related to maintenance, repair, management of computer systems or trade. Out of 659,090 individual entrepreneurs, only 8,515 people, or 1.3%, are engaged in such activities.
The largest number of entrepreneurs is engaged in trade in non-specialized stores — 208,000, or 32%. Another 159,900 (24%) trade in markets and from stalls, and 107,400 (16%) — outside stores, in particular via the Internet.
If we talk about geography, the Dnipropetrovsk region leads in the number of individual entrepreneurs in retail trade — 46,400. It is followed by the Odessa region (44,500), Kyiv (43,900), Lviv region (40,700), and Kharkiv region (40,600).
Recall that in the second quarter, the number of new IT sole proprietorships decreased by 8.7% (to 8,800), and closures increased by 6.5% .
