ARMA was among the Ukrainian institutions whose email accounts were accessed by Russian hackers. The head of the Agency confirmed the attack, but emphasized that the attackers did not gain access to internal information systems.
Yesterday, April 15, Reuters reported that more than 170 email accounts belonging to Ukrainian prosecutors and investigators had been hacked. According to the Ctrl-Alt-Intel, a British-American cyber threat research group, the hacking campaign, which lasted from September to March, was carried out by the Fancy Bear group, one of the nicknames of a notorious Russian military intelligence unit.
The victims of hackers were: the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Field of Defense, the National Agency of Ukraine for the Detection, Tracing and Management of Assets Obtained from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA), and the Training Center for Prosecutors of Ukraine in Kyiv.
According to the acting head of ARMA Yaroslava Maksymenko, the Digital Transformation Department, in cooperation with the State Special Communications Service, checked information about a possible information leak as a result of cyberattacks.
"According to the results of the inspection, it was established that access to internal information systems was not obtained, there was no leak from databases and state information resources," Maksymenko noted in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
Currently, we are talking about access to the mailboxes of employees of a state body. "The information has been transferred to law enforcement agencies to provide a legal assessment and make a decision in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine," Maksymenko added.
