Ukrainian developer creates Telegram bot to notify loved ones in case of danger during meetings

A Ukrainian developer created a Telegram bot with a Mini App called OKMe for added security when meeting strangers, going on dates, traveling, or returning home.
The author shared the development on Reddit. Before a meeting, the user can select one or more trusted persons, and then create a secure session in OKMe: specify the location, information about the person they are meeting with, and the time for further verification.
When the set time expires, the bot asks the user to confirm that they are okay. The user can then end the session, extend the timer, or press the SOS button. If there is no response even after the additional backup time, OKMe automatically notifies the selected trusted people and shares the saved meeting information with them.
«Unlike a regular message to a friend, it doesn’t require both people to remember the agreement. The bot itself monitors the timer and sends a warning if the user doesn’t respond,» the developer explains.
OKMe does not track the user’s movements in the background. Instead, the Telegram Mini App saves one geolocation point after the user presses the corresponding button. However, during a meeting, the point can be updated manually, so in case of an alarm, the trusted person will receive the last saved location and the time of its update. However, the bot does not call the police and cannot replace contacting emergency services.
Now the developer is asking those who want to test OKMe on different devices and share their impressions. He suggests going through the full scenario of the bot’s operation: adding a trusted person, creating a short protective session and then confirming that everything is fine. And also checking what notification loved ones will receive if the user does not get in touch.
