Starting September 1, 2027, the updated curriculum for the subject "Defense of Ukraine" will cover all secondary education institutions in the country. In addition to the basic course, high school students will be able to choose specialized areas for in-depth study, including drone technology, engineering, and cybersecurity.
This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine following the results of the All-Ukrainian Forum "Defense of Ukraine — 2026", which was held in Transcarpathia.
During the event, students and teachers from 19 teams practiced tactical medicine tasks, completed an obstacle course, and learned to pilot Tiny Whoop class FPV drones. The practical program was joined by military personnel from the 12th Special Forces Brigade "Azov" of the NSU, specialists from the SkyFall Academy, and Ukrainian technology companies, including L7 Simulators, which provided the CITADELE training system for simulating training scenarios.
"The reform of the "Defense of Ukraine" began more than two years ago so that this subject would become a space where students learn to act, take responsibility, and work in a team. Today, more than a thousand centers are already operating in Ukraine. These competitions allow you to test yourself and feel the scale of the community," said the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Andriy Butenko.
In total, there are 1,027 specially equipped centers in Ukraine, which are used by students from several educational institutions — this covers approximately 80% of high school students. During the reform, UAH 2.1 billion was allocated for their equipment, and over UAH 100 million was allocated for advanced training of teachers.
The Ministry of Education announced the renewal of the subject "Defense of Ukraine" in schools, promising simulators for controlling drones. And what else
