OpenAI has announced a major launch of its advertising platform in Europe. Starting next week, chatbot ads will start showing to users in 31 European countries, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Austria.

In total, this expansion will increase the geography of ChatGPT Ads to 35 countries around the world — just six months after the launch of the first pilot project in the US, Neowin reports .
Only users of ChatGPT Free and Go plans will see ads. Paid subscriptions (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu) remain completely ad-free.
The platform is not fully automated (like Google Ads or Meta). Advertisers must order placement through the OpenAI Ads Solutions team or partner agencies. A full-fledged self-service Ads Manager is promised to launch later this summer.
Over the past six months, OpenAI has added geolocation targeting capabilities, custom audience settings, cost-per-click (CPC) and cost-per-impression (CPM) models, as well as its own analytics tools (OpenAI Pixel and Conversions API).
The company claims that ChatGPT allows you to attract buyers better than classic search engines. Instead of short keywords, users describe in detail their needs, budget and limitations (for example, when planning trips or choosing equipment), which allows you to show the most accurate advertising at the moment of making a purchase decision.
OpenAI assured that the presence of ads will not affect the objectivity of AI responses, dialogues will remain private, and users' personal data will not be transferred to advertisers.
