OpenAI to fund Ukrainian research on AI in schools during war

OpenAI will support a Ukrainian educational project that will explore the impact of artificial intelligence on school education during wartime. The initiative was ranked among the top 12 in the world in the global EMEA Youth & Wellbeing program, beating hundreds of applications from other countries.
The project is being implemented by WINWIN EdTech Center of Excellence and the Eastern Europe Foundation, the Ministry of Digital Affairs reported .
The team plans to explore how Ukrainian students, parents, and teachers use AI tools in wartime, distance, and hybrid learning environments.
As part of the study, they plan to interview 7,000 people — students aged 12–17, their parents, and teachers.
Separately, the team will analyze how Ukrainian schools integrate AI into the educational process and how the interaction between teachers and children is changing through the use of neural networks.
The project also plans to create an AI Safety Toolkit — a set of practical recommendations and tools for the safe use of artificial intelligence by teenagers and adults.
Another result should be an open data dashboard and a national analytical report that will be publicly available.
According to the project team, the results of the study may form the basis for new approaches to state education policy and rules for the use of AI in schools.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation emphasizes in a statement that Ukraine is currently undergoing digital transformation in unique conditions — during a full-scale war and constant security challenges.
«As we continue to digitize and integrate AI into daily security challenges, this experience becomes a unique source of knowledge for the whole world,» the Ministry of Digital Affairs notes.
They add that the results of the Ukrainian project can help shape international standards for a safe digital environment for children and adolescents.
