According to the developers, the cost of using the API for the Sol and Luna models has decreased by 50% compared to the promotional prices of the previous GPT-5.6 series. Thus, the tariffs for input tokens for GPT-6 Sol are $2 per 1 million, and for outputs - $10. For the cheap version of GPT-6 Luna, the prices have been reduced to $0.10 and $0.50 per 1 million input and output tokens, respectively.
The new GPT-6 Sol model is positioned as a tool for business process automation and software development. According to the company's internal tests in the AutomationBench 1.0.6 benchmark, it outperforms the Claude Opus 5 model, requiring only 9% of its cost. In turn, GPT-6 Luna is focused on basic everyday tasks: at high levels of reasoning, it demonstrates actual accuracy comparable to GPT-5.6 Sol, but costs about 100 times less.
“GPT-6 Astra ushered in a new generation of intelligence—these models help extend its benefits, pushing the boundaries of cost-effectiveness,” OpenAI notes.
In addition, both models have almost halved the number of actual errors compared to their predecessors, and have optimized the query caching system. This allows developers to reuse the context of long-running dialogs and save up to 90% of the cost of reading tokens.
The GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models are now available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu paid plan users, as well as to developers via the API. Free users can try out the Luna model in the desktop app.
Earlier this month, OpenAI unveiled its flagship GPT-6 model, Astra , which the company calls the most powerful and capable it has ever produced.
