OpenAI is warning developers to be wary of phishing attacks after hackers stole data from web analytics platform Mixpanel.
OpenAI said that a security incident that occurred with Mixpanel earlier this month affected the profile data of users of the company's developer platform, Business Insider writes .
The stolen data may include “limited analytics data” such as names, email addresses, and approximate locations of some API users.
The company also claims that OpenAI's systems were not hacked, and that ChatGPT users were not affected, adding that passwords, payment details, and chat or API requests were not compromised.
However, OpenAI said the data leak could be used for phishing attacks on developers, and warned them to "be cautious of unexpected emails or messages."
Mixpanel, which has over 11,000 enterprise customers, said in a statement that the breach was the result of a “smashing” attack discovered on November 8.
Smishing attacks use fake text messages to trick a victim into revealing personal information or downloading malicious software.
The companies do not disclose how many people were affected by the data theft.
