“Passwords are a thing of the past.” How Ukrainian Hideez helps companies log in without passwords – BAKOTECH experts tell

International True Value Added IT distributor BAKOTECH is developing the Hideez solution in Ukraine and abroad — a passwordless authentication system that is already used in the public sector, corporate business, medicine and finance. dev.ua spoke with representatives of this company during the IT Arena conference in Lviv.

Passwordless authentication in today’s realities is not a whim, but a necessity, the company explains. Classic password methods are the weakest link in the security of every company and institution. And no solutions will protect the company from attackers as long as users have passwords that are easy to steal, because modern attack methods are aimed not at the system, but at users. The existence of a password immediately equals risks.

According to statistics, more than 200,000 passwords are stolen every day, which leads to huge financial losses. The main reason for this is precisely authentication problems. According to the Egress Email Security Risk Report, 94% of companies will be subject to phishing attacks (data for 2023).

Hideez’s solution helps turn the authentication problem into an advantage. The key idea is that users do not need to remember complex character combinations, and security is achieved through modern cryptographic methods and local key storage.

Anastasia Klyushkina, Enterprise Sales Manager, and Roman Bebeshko, Sales Engineer at BAKOTECH, told dev.ua about how the product is developing and why the future lies in password-free technologies.

Hideez: a Ukrainian product that already works in Ukraine, the USA, Europe and Asia

A solution that originated as a startup from a small idea and now has hundreds of implemented projects around the world.

«In Ukraine alone, we have over 10,000 users,» says Anastasia Klyushkina. «In addition, there are projects implemented in the USA, Europe, and Asian countries. Among our clients are government institutions, large corporations, financial organizations, and medical companies.»

The Hideez team is constantly improving, focusing on the quality of development rather than the quantity.

Instead of scattering into numerous directions, the team consistently deepens the functionality of existing tools, opening up ever wider opportunities for users to work conveniently and securely.

The solution is constantly adapting to market needs — developers listen carefully to customers and implement only those features that bring real business benefits.

«We are developing by leaps and bounds — the product is constantly updated to meet market needs,» adds Roman Bebeshko.

Hideez uses the international FIDO2 standard, which provides password-free authentication through cryptographic keys. This architecture eliminates centralized points of vulnerability and makes attacks on accounts almost impossible. The presence of DSSZI certificates confirms compliance with Ukrainian requirements and legislation.

Mobile authentication and Passkey technology

«The global trend is to abandon passwords in favor of Passkey, a secure login mechanism without entering character combinations.»

A technology that allows users to log in to systems without entering passwords, using biometrics or secure encryption of keys stored only on the user’s device. This approach eliminates the risks of phishing, credential theft, and simplifies the authentication experience. Leading players in the market, such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft, have already integrated Passkey support into their services, and this technology is quickly becoming the standard for secure logins worldwide.

«Our solution supports three authorization methods: through Passkey technology, a mobile application, and physical security keys. The latter are relevant for specific cases where customers want to have the maximum level of control,» explains Roman Bebeshko.

New features: a workstation that «recognizes» the user

One of Hideez’s latest innovations is automatic locking and unlocking of the computer when the user approaches using a mobile device.

«The device connects via Bluetooth, monitors the signal level or distance from the workstation, and when the user leaves, the workstation is locked. When you return, the system unlocks itself. And all this without any password or additional actions on the part of the user,» says the engineer.

At the same time, the user can connect multiple workstations to one application and manage access in a few clicks.

«The application allows you to quickly access corporate services — mail, document management, CRM — while maintaining a high level of security,» he adds.

Less cost, more convenience

With Hideez, the login process takes seconds — several times faster than using traditional password-based authentication methods. The solution provides quick unlocking of a workstation or logging into a required service without the need to enter complex character combinations.

«We had a specific case when the customer set a requirement for login in no longer than four seconds — and the Hideez team effortlessly implemented this task, proving the effectiveness of the solution in practice,» says Anastasia.

Hideez helps businesses optimize the costs of using and managing various access systems, as well as reduce costs for: one-time codes, SMS-2FA, password support, administrative management. From a financial perspective, Forrester estimates that each password reset request costs a company an average of $70.

«Instead of several solutions, additional factors for logging into services and applications: SAP, CRM systems, mail, document management, etc. or for confirming transactions, the company receives one universal solution that is easily integrated into the infrastructure, optimizes time spent, and reduces the load on the support service,» explains Anastasia Klyushkina.
