Pentagon enlists Elon Musk to determine future US military strategy
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced the launch of a new initiative, Project Meridian, during his State of the Union address. The project aims to explore how wars will be fought in an era of rapid technological development.
Billionaire Elon Musk, founder of defense company Anduril Palmer Luckey, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich have been appointed as co-chairs of the project.
This is actually Musk's first official return to work with the administration since his departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last year.

This is actually Musk's first official return to work with the administration since his departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last year.
Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey, and Newt Gingrich will work alongside experts from academia and policy circles under the leadership of Department of Defense Chief of Staff Emil Michael, TechCrunch reports .
The group's main task is to study the "battlefields of the future" as well as the weapons and technologies that the military will use. The team will have 120 days to present its findings and propose concrete solutions for the development, testing, and implementation of advanced technologies.
In addition, Pete Hegseth announced the creation of the Autonomous Warfare Command to accelerate the development and deployment of unmanned systems and drones.
Musk and Luckey joining the initiative is a logical step. Musk’s company SpaceX launches satellites for the US government and operates a dedicated satellite network for national defense needs. Palmer Luckey’s company Anduril develops autonomous military systems and drones, and has contracts to produce long-range missiles and semi-autonomous fighter jets.
At the same time, critics point out that the involvement of Musk and Luckey in the Meridian project could create a conflict of interest, as they will be seeking solutions for the US military that directly align with the business interests of their own companies.
