Japanese musical instrument manufacturer Roland has announced the FP-40 portable digital piano. It is the brand’s first instrument to feature built-in Wi-Fi for direct wireless updates and synchronization with the Piano Sphere interactive learning platform.
This was reported by the specialized publication Music Instrument News with reference to the company’s press release.
By connecting directly to your home network, the instrument can update its software and interact with the Piano Sphere app without the need for Bluetooth or third-party adapters. The app, developed in collaboration with the Skoove platform, offers step-by-step lessons and real-time analysis of your playing. The FP-40 is able to record your training history even when the app is turned off, and the Piano Sphere button on the body flashes if the system algorithm notices difficulty in performing a difficult passage.
The 88-key instrument is equipped with Roland PHA-4 Standard hammer action with Ivory Feel finish and Piano Reality Sound Engine. For peripheral connection, there is a USB-C port (MIDI and audio transmission), Bluetooth module, as well as headphone and pedal jacks. The basic free version of Piano Sphere for iOS and Android contains 100 lessons and interactive tracks with the ability to expand the catalog to over 1,000 items.
Roland’s FP series is one of the most popular lines of compact digital pianos on the market. Previously, users had to rely on a limited-bandwidth wired USB or Bluetooth connection to sync the series with learning software.
