Lasar’s Group NGU unit launches FPV countermeasures course and teaches fighters to shoot down drones with rifles
Lasar’s Group, part of the National Guard of Ukraine, has launched a practical course on countering enemy FPV drones and is training fighters to quickly detect and neutralize targets at short distances.
Lasar’s Group, part of the National Guard of Ukraine, has launched a practical course on countering enemy FPV drones and is training fighters to quickly detect and neutralize targets at short distances.
According to the unit’s official Facebook page, the program was created in collaboration with practical shooting masters and adapted to the needs of combat units. The video showed intensive exercises in shooting with 12-gauge rifles at small air targets, both static targets and moving ones that simulate the FPV trajectory.
A separate block of classes was devoted to the selection of ammunition and rate of fire for work at short distances, as well as practicing series of shots and rapid transfer of fire. Lasar’s Group explains that the course should provide applied skills in actions at the moment of attack, when the time for a decision is a matter of seconds.
The course is conducted by Ivan Ilyukhin, an ATO veteran and founder of the GunBro Ukraine shooting school, together with his daughter Oleksandra Ilyukhina, a European champion and world vice-champion in practical rifle shooting. The instructors combine combat experience with sports shooting techniques to improve accuracy and reaction speed.
FPV drones have become one of the most common means of pinpoint attack on the front lines, so units are looking for affordable ways to cover positions from low-altitude attacks. A shotgun can be a solution at short range, but the result depends on reaction, correctly selected ammunition and practiced exercises, so such courses help standardize training.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how Ukrainian fighters undergoing training at training grounds in Poland and other NATO countries say that a significant part of the programs is still focused on the war of past decades and almost does not take into account the role of drones.
