Pixel Tag supports Bluetooth and UWB (Ultra-Wideband). With UWB, your smartphone and tracker exchange short radio signals. The phone then measures how long it takes for the signal to travel between them and from which direction it comes. This way, it can better understand in which direction the tracker is and how far it is. The tracker also has a speaker, so you can find the location by sound.
To connect to the Pixel Tag, you just need to bring it to your smartphone. A suggestion to connect it will automatically appear on the screen and you will only need to click the "yes" button. There is also protection against using the tracker to follow people. If the system sees that an unknown Pixel Tag is moving near the user for a certain time, Android should notify you about it.
The tracker has a stainless steel body and is dust and water resistant. A single battery should last about a year, after which you can replace it yourself.
The device will cost $29, and a set of four trackers will cost $99. Sales will start on November 11.
