Rheinmetall, a German defense concern, has announced the start of deliveries of the Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicle to the Defense Forces. The first BMPs will appear in early 2026.

The cost of the order for the first five combat vehicles is several tens of millions of euros, and the systems are financed by the German state, Rheinmetall notes.

Earlier, Ukraine chose the Lynx as its basic infantry fighting vehicle and began work on joint production with the German concern. The decision in favor of the Lynx KF41 was made after thorough testing of the new generation infantry fighting vehicle (IFV).

These Lynx will be equipped with the Lance two-seat turret and specifically configured for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Additional batches, including those produced in Ukraine, are also planned for purchase.

«We are grateful to Ukraine for the trust it has placed in us. We would also like to thank the German government for its support. This order is a fundamental success that underlines our ongoing efforts to support Ukraine,» said Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG.

The Lynx was developed by Rheinmetall and first introduced in 2016. The armored vehicle has a «modular» design and can be equipped with various weapons. The Lynx can be used either as an infantry fighting vehicle or, in the so-called Skyranger variant, as an anti-aircraft tank with a 30-35 mm cannon. It can also be armed with the 120 mm cannon from the Leopard tank.

We will remind that the Rheinmetall concern planned to open three enterprises in Ukraine: they will specialize in the production and repair of air defense systems, the repair and assembly of armored vehicles, and the production of ammunition.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reported that the construction of Rheinmetall’s second military plant in Ukraine is nearing completion.
