Android devices with Snapdragon chips will soon be able to share files directly with iPhones via Quick Share and AirDrop, making it much easier to transfer photos or videos between different ecosystems.
Qualcomm has confirmed that the Android-to-Apple feature for its Quick Share service will be available on devices powered by its Snapdragon chips. The company announced this in a post on X, promising that users will be able to take advantage of the new feature «very soon.» This means that wireless file sharing with the iPhone will not be limited to the Pixel line with Google Tensor chips.
It is expected that owners of other Android devices will also be able to transfer files to Apple smartphones: from Samsung Galaxy and OnePlus flagships to gadgets from brands like Nothing. Qualcomm does not disclose the exact launch dates and list of models, but hints that support may appear not only on smartphones, but also on Snapdragon-based tablets and laptops.
Can’t wait for people to use this once enabled on Snapdragon in the near future. https://t.co/IUvT23p5pq
The initiative continues Google’s announced course to expand Quick Share: the company previously announced that the Android service will be able to work in tandem with AirDrop and for the first time become a bridge between the two mobile platforms for fast local file sharing. For users, this means less dependence on messengers or cloud services when you just need to send a large video or a selection of photos to a nearby phone.
Along with the upcoming RCS support in iOS 18, which should improve messaging between iPhone and Android, this wireless sharing integration is gradually eliminating one of the key differences between mobile ecosystems. If manufacturers quickly update their devices, users will be able to think less about which smartphone the other person has when they need to send something quickly and easily.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how Qualcomm announced two new processors for Windows 11 laptops — Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme and Snapdragon X2 Elite. The company promises best-in-class performance, fast offline AI, and long battery life in thin and light models.
