The Russian leader announced the successful testing of the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle with a nuclear installation

Russian media report the words of the so-called Russian President Vladimir Putin, who announced the testing of a new unmanned underwater «product». According to him, «Poseidon» was first launched from a submarine with an active nuclear power plant.

«Yesterday we conducted another test of another promising complex — the underwater unmanned product „Poseidon“. Also with a nuclear power plant. For the first time we managed not only to launch it from a submarine-carrier with a starting engine, but also to launch a nuclear power plant, on which the device spent a certain amount of time,» Putin said.

The Poseidon is an unmanned underwater vehicle capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear munitions, and is essentially a nuclear torpedo. It is equipped with a nuclear power plant, which gives the vehicle a virtually unlimited range.

The Russian leader praised the characteristics of Poseidon, in particular its «minimum dimensions» and power, which «exceeds the power» of the Russian Sarmat intercontinental missile.

«In addition, there is nothing like this drone in the world in terms of speed and depth of movement, and it is unlikely to appear in the near future. There are no means of interception,» says Vladimir Putin.

Previously, Russian media reported on the production of the first set of Poseidon nuclear torpedoes for the Belgorod submarine.

In early October, Putin boasted of an allegedly successful test of a nuclear-powered cruise missile called the Burevestnik. The Russians said it stayed in the air for about 15 hours and traveled 14,000 kilometers. In response, US President Donald Trump said Putin should end the war with Ukraine instead of testing missiles.
