UCU, together with startup Haiqu, will hold the fourth school on quantum machine learning

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU), together with the Ukrainian quantum startup Haiqu, announced the launch of the fourth summer school, Quantum Machine Learning School 2026. The intensive will be held from July 20 to 25 on the territory of the Lviv campus of UCU.

The organizers of the educational project announced the start of registration. The initiative is aimed at senior students, graduates, and young scientists in physics, mathematics, engineering, and computer science who are eager to master quantum computing.

The training program is designed in such a way that prior knowledge of quantum mechanics is not required. The course will combine theoretical background and practical exercises, during which participants will learn to create algorithms using the Qiskit and Pennylane tools. To successfully pass the selection, candidates will need a solid knowledge of linear algebra, probability theory, the basics of machine learning and Python programming. The language of instruction is English.

«Quantum computing is rapidly moving from theory to practice, and our goal is to lay a solid foundation for understanding these technologies among Ukrainian talents in order to stimulate their development in this promising domain,» says Mykola Maksymenko, co-founder and CTO of Haiqu.

In addition to Mykola Maksymenko, the school’s mentors and lecturers will be leading quantum engineers and researchers from Ukraine, the USA, and Europe. Among them are Haiqu’s Chief Scientist Maciek Kosh-Janush, the startup’s lead engineer Yuriy Pryima, and Vladislav Los, who is currently researching quantum technologies at the RWTH Aachen University (Germany).

Participation in the school will be on a competitive basis. The standard registration fee is 10,000 UAH, but the organizers have provided for grant places. The best applicants will be able to receive a scholarship that fully covers the cost of tuition and accommodation on the UCU campus.

Priority in receiving scholarships will be given to profile students, masters, postgraduates and veterans. To receive financial support, it is necessary to provide a letter of recommendation from a scientific supervisor. Based on the results of the intensive, participants will receive certificates worth 3 ECTS credits.
