“Any technical solution has a service life of no more than half a year.” The head of Quantum Systems in Ukraine on how UAVs are changing in the race with electronic warfare means
Oleksandr Berezhny, Managing Director at Quantum Systems (Germany, Ukraine), said that he believes it is necessary to maintain a tactical advantage for unmanned aerial vehicles in an environment where the number of electronic warfare (EW) assets is increasing.
Oleksandr Berezhny, Managing Director at Quantum Systems (Germany, Ukraine), said that he believes it is necessary to maintain a tactical advantage for unmanned aerial vehicles in an environment where the number of electronic warfare (EW) assets is increasing.
«The key to staying ahead in this race is only a combination of resilience, adaptability, and technological evolution,» said the Ukrainian managing director of the German company Quantum Systems, which specializes in the development, design, and production of small UAVs, during a panel at the Defense Tech Innovation Forum 2025.
Oleksandr Berezhny emphasized that not only Quantum Systems, but also other UAV manufacturers must be agile in this. Using the example of a German manufacturer, he noted that Quantum Systems:
implementing technologies, how to switch communication protocols,
integrate AI solutions into UAVs,
ensure rapid adaptation of tests that were conducted at the front together with military operators.
The head of Quantum Systems in Ukraine noted that the ability to provide rapid changes and continuous improvements on the battlefield is actually what should keep UAVs ahead in this race.
«Because we all know that any technical solution we offer has a service life of no more than half a year. And it’s generous when we have this half a year. Usually, it’s three months. And then you have to quickly change the way you work. And this speed of adaptation is what still keeps us alive,» emphasizes Oleksandr Berezhny.
Recall that in the spring of 2024, Quantum Systems opened a factory in Ukraine and began producing Vector reconnaissance drones for the Defense Forces.
The Ukrainian production facility is the fourth of the company’s seven plants located around the world. The company plans to invest up to six million euros in the project over the next two years.
Quantum Systems is currently working on integrating sound measurement functionality into its Twister, Vector, and Reliant reconnaissance drones. This will allow the drones to detect enemy artillery and mortar positions at distances of up to 15 km.
