Reaction in 0.40 seconds. The startup of the former CTO OpenAI is developing interactive AI models. Perhaps they will be able not only to “listen”, but also to “interrupt” the user

Artificial intelligence startup Thinking Machines Lab, founded last year by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, announced on Monday the release of what it calls «interactive AI models,» or «interaction models.»
TechCrunch, which was one of the first to draw attention to this interesting announcement, concluded that this new version of AI models will be able to conduct a dialogue with the user at such a speed that it will even interrupt the user.
«Right now, every AI model you’ve ever used works the same way. You speak, it ‘listens’. It responds, you ‘listen’. Thinking Machines is trying to change that by creating a model that processes your data and generates a response at the same time. So it’s more like a phone call than a text thread,» the publication explains.
The technical term for this technology, which Thinking Machines Lab uses, is «full duplex,» and the company itself claims that its TML-Interaction-Small model will be able to respond to requests in 0.40 seconds, which is roughly the speed of natural human conversation and significantly faster than models from OpenAI and Google.
However, it is important to realize that Thinking Machines Lab is only sharing a concept in this case, and their product is not yet ready for use.
Meanwhile, a «limited pre-research preview» of the new type of AI model is expected to take place over the next few months, with a full release planned for the end of this year.
As dev.ua reported, former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati recently testified in Elon Musk’s high-profile lawsuit against ChatGPT developers. She accused CEO Sam Altman of manipulation and creating a tense atmosphere among top management.
