The key innovation of the update is the voice assistant Siri AI, built on the basis of the next generation of Apple Intelligence technology. The assistant has gained the ability to understand personal context in Messages, Mail and Photos more deeply, analyze content on the screen and search for information on the web. At the same time, the company introduced the Visual Intelligence function for analyzing objects around or on the screen, Siri mode in Camera for recognizing and paying bills, as well as the Write with Siri tool for generating and editing texts. For the convenience of users, the developers have created a separate Siri application with synchronization of chat history between devices via iCloud.
Artificial intelligence has also updated standard applications. Messages and Photos have Spatial Reframing, Extend tools, and an improved Clean Up function. The Image Playground application has gained the ability to create photorealistic images with support for the SynthID tagging standard, and the Safari browser has learned to automatically group tabs by topic, notify about price changes on sites, and generate extensions. In addition, the Call Context function can prompt important information during calls, such as confirmation codes or booking details.
The system design has been updated with the Liquid Glass visual style, the transparency of which can be conveniently adjusted using a separate slider in the "Settings". Considerable attention has been paid to child safety and parental control. The systems have a new wizard for setting up children’s accounts with age restrictions, the Ask to Browse website confirmation function, and advanced Communication Safety protection, which automatically blocks violent or bloody content in photos and videos. In turn, the updated Screen Time offers a visual overview of device usage and allows you to flexibly set access limits and schedules.
According to the company, overall system performance has seen a significant increase: applications launch up to 30% faster, photo uploads are up to 70% faster, and file transfers via AirDrop are up to 80%. On iPad, the speed of working with external storage has increased by up to 5 times. The transition between Wi-Fi and cellular networks has become seamless. Other improvements include support for full-size media in iCloud Shared Albums for Android and Windows users, perimenopause tracking in Health, and new Smart Stack widgets for Apple Watch.
The new Apple Intelligence features are available on devices with M1 chips and later, iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 and later, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and Apple Vision Pro. Siri AI beta currently only supports English, but French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish are expected to be added in October.
