The CEO of the German defense concern Rheinmetall, Armin Papperger, announced unwavering plans to build factories in Ukraine.
«We keep our word. Our strategy is to build three plants in Ukraine, and this does not depend on whether there is a war or not,» the CEO of the concern said in an interview with DW during the Munich Security Conference in response to a journalist’s suggestion that if the war ends this year.
Despite the fact that, according to Armin Papperger, the process of Rheinmetall’s cooperation in Ukraine is proceeding more slowly than in Europe, he noted that overall cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Industry of Ukraine is going well. The CEO of the concern also noted the active participation of the President of Ukraine in decision-making and promoting progress.
He recalled that a plant for repairing equipment is already operating, which was the first in the cooperation. In addition, an ammunition production plant is currently being built, which, as Armin Papperger reported, will begin operating in 2026. And the third, Rheinmetall would like to build a plant for the production of anti-aircraft systems.
Armin Papperger also noted that the concern is ready to meet Ukraine’s needs as soon as possible. In addition, he noted that the ongoing war in Ukraine does not directly affect ammunition production, since the factories are not located on the front line, and it is possible to prepare for missile attacks.
