Vlad Tenev, CEO of fintech startup Robinhood, believes that at his company, code written using AI already outnumbers classical programming.
Tenev said this on the 20VC podcast, Business Insider reports. He said that the percentage of generated code at Robinhood exceeds 50%. This is more than at Microsoft and Google, where CEOs Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai estimated it at about 30%.
Tenev acknowledged that the 50% figure is inaccurate due to the growing popularity of «agent» code editors.
«We’ve gone from GitHub Copilot, which is an auto-completion system, to Cursor, and now to programs like Windsurf, where almost all the code is written by artificial intelligence.» It’s even hard to tell which code is written by a human, Tenev said.
He added that 100% of Robinhood engineers use the AI-based editor. According to Vlad Tenev, AI has helped stabilize the company’s costs and efficiency.
«We haven’t really publicized how widely we use it internally. The impact it has had on internal teams, from software development to customer support, on really large internal teams, has been huge,» the CEO noted.
Robinhood shares are currently on a bullish trend, up more than 177% year-to-date, driven by the company’s expansion into cryptocurrency, including the launch of U.S. private equity tokens.
