The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published an interactive 3D model, components, and electronic component database of the new Filin cruise missile on the War&Sanctions portal.
According to the GUR, Russia began using it at the end of the summer of this year.
What kind of rocket is this?
The GUR believes that the Filin continues the trend of the Russian military-industrial complex to develop inexpensive air attack means with jet propulsion and ground launch. The missile was created by JSC NPO Molniya, which is part of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation.
The fuselage of the "Filina" is made of composite materials, carbon fiber and fiberglass. Its length is 3.5 meters, wingspan is 3 meters. Some elements are made using 3D printing technology. The launch takes place from a ground-based launcher with a powder accelerator.
The characteristics that the enemy himself claims are as follows: maximum speed up to 800 km/h, range up to 1,200 km. The missile is capable of flying at ultra-low altitudes or rising to 6 km. There are versions with a 50 and 100 kg warhead.
One hand with the "Harpy"
The onboard equipment of the Filina is manufactured by PLAZ LLC. This company is also involved in the production of the Harpy UAV, modifications of the Gerani-2 (series K, KB, KC and others) manufactured by JSC IEMZ Kupol. According to GUR, the Filina and Harpy units have a similar layout and marking.
Target guidance is provided by a Chinese-made inertial navigation system and a 16-channel "Comet", a Russian antenna with electronic warfare protection.
More Chinese
The electronic component base is similar to other Russian missiles and drones, but differs in the increased share of Chinese components. In the "Filin", the GUR counted 35 American and 22 Chinese components. Intelligence also notes the unification of solutions for various blocks and boards.
The rocket’s engine is Russian: R500 manufactured by Reynolds LLC. The same engine was previously identified in the S-71K "Kover" and S-71M "Monochrome" aviation cruise missiles, among others.
The GUR assures that it continues to systematically investigate new enemy developments.
