Russian developers released the game «Hostomelskiye Bogatyr» to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It tells the story of the occupiers' attempts to capture the Gostomel airport, which in real life ended with the destruction of the Russian landing force.
Russian media reports that the project was created by the studio «Igrayuschie Koshki.» «Hostomelskiye Bogatyr» is a tactical strategy game that has several missions about Russian troops trying to occupy Bucha, Irpin, and Gostomel at the beginning of a full-scale invasion.
The first mission begins with a landing in Gostomel and ends with the destruction of the world’s largest aircraft, the An-225 Mriya, which, according to Russian developers, was destroyed by Ukrainians themselves. According to Bucha Mayor Anatoly Fedoruk, in fact, the Mriya was destroyed by air raids by the Russian army.

In 2023, the GUR reported that about 200 Russian special forces, who were specialists in seizing airports, were eliminated in Gostomel. According to military blogger Oryx, the Russians lost 6 helicopters in battles: 1 Mi-8, 1 Mi-28, and 4 Ka-52.
«Honestly, it’s a bad theme for a patriotic game. It would be better if they did the Mariupol siege,» one of the Russian gamers criticized the game «Hostomelskiye Bogatyr.»
