Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation has significantly increased the number of cyberattacks on Ukraine. In particular, during this time, cyber specialists of the SBU have neutralized more than 16,000 cyber incidents. In addition to state bodies, financial institutions and defense structures, Ukrainian media have become a priority target.
This was stated by the head of the Cybersecurity Department (DCIB) of the SBU, Brigadier General Volodymyr Karastelov.
"It is noteworthy that in addition to state bodies, financial institutions, and defense structures, the priority target for such enemy attacks is the Ukrainian media," Karastelov emphasized.
In 2026, Russian hackers launched a massive three-hour DDoS attack on a national television channel. The hostile botnet generated up to 200,000 requests per minute from nodes in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
Karastelov explained that the attack was aimed at the application level of the site, where hackers imitated the actions of real visitors to overload the server. Thanks to the prompt intervention of SBU cyber specialists, the web resource continued to work, and the enemy failed.
In 2025, the enemy attacked another leading Ukrainian television group. The attack on the media's information and communication systems began with a phishing campaign, in parallel with which the attackers tried to penetrate the adjacent infrastructure.
The head of the department noted that SBU specialists detected the intrusion in time. Thanks to this, it was possible to prevent the enemy from gaining control over the resource and prevent the publication of propaganda content on behalf of Ukrainian media.
