According to Defense Minister Yevheniy Khmara, the production of its own jet engines for interceptors, middle strike, deep strike, and cruise missiles is one of the priorities for the Ukrainian defense industry, and a number of companies are currently working on this.
He stated this at a meeting with journalists, RBC-Ukraine reports.
Khmara added that Ukraine already has developments in this niche, and in general, about two dozen Ukrainian manufacturers work in these categories.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense outlined that the need for one type of engine could reach about 10,000 units per month.
At the same time, as Yevhenii Khmara says, the enemy is “accelerating” its jet drones even more.
"We also know what solutions Russia is developing, this concerns jet drones with a speed of 800 km/h. We are also working on finding ways to counter the next generation of threats," Khmara noted.
According to him, Ukraine has successful results in using interceptor drones against enemy "jets."
"One of the units, during combat use with five interceptors ("Bars"), destroyed five air targets. That is, the effectiveness is 100%. Now this experience is being studied and scaled up, additional specialists and units are being involved in the work," the minister explained.
He also added that the number of large-caliber turrets against jet UAVs in Ukraine’s arsenal is already measured in the hundreds.
As Khmara assured, this area of work is also being scaled up.
