A separate Word document, weighing in at 6.6 MB, contains the source port of doomgeneric and is available on GitHub . To run this version of Doom, users will need a modern version of Microsoft Office or Word for Windows 8.1. It is important to note that players must allow VBA macros to run in the document, which requires bypassing a security warning.
Doom has already been ported to game consoles, computer systems, various operating systems, mobile devices, and basically every new computer platform developed since the 1990s. The inspiration for this project for Gray was attempts to port the game to more unconventional formats, such as DoomPDF and Pdftris. However, this version of Doom in Word format seems to offer a more authentic experience compared to its PDF counterparts. The graphics are very reminiscent of the original FPS, and the game runs at a decent speed, writes TechSpot.
Graia's portfolio also includes projects such as Doom-ascii, Doom in Stardew Valley, and Doom in Minecraft.
WordDoom or DoomWord (since the author did not prefer any name) contains the doomgeneric_docm.dll library and the base64 encoded game data doom1.wad. When the document is opened, a VBA macro extracts the encoded data and loads it, allowing the game to run in the Word environment.
Players can control the game using the familiar keys: arrow keys to move, Control to shoot, Spacebar to interact, and keys 1-7 to select weapons. However, it is worth noting that this version does not include audio, focusing solely on the visual experience.
